Frequently asked questions
Does refractive surgery hurt?
No. It is performed using anesthetic eye drops and, in some cases, mild sedation. You won't feel pain during the procedure. There may be mild discomfort, such as tearing or a gritty sensation during the first few days, depending on the technique used (most common with PRK).
Which refractive surgery technique is best: LASIK, PRK, SMILE or ICL?
They are excellent techniques. The best option is personalized based on your cornea, prescription, and lifestyle.
At Clarity, we use precise diagnostic tests to recommend the safest and most effective technique for you.
How long does it take for your vision to improve?
In most cases with LASIK or SMILE, you'll notice improvement from the first day. With PRK, visual recovery may take 5 to 7 days. ICL also provides immediate results. Everything will be explained based on your specific case.
How permanent is the correction?
The results are long-lasting. In most patients, the corrected vision remains stable for many years. Only a small percentage may need a retouch with time, depending on their age and refractive stability.
Can I have surgery if I have high astigmatism or thin corneas?
Yes, techniques like PRK or ICL exist for those cases. That's why we perform advanced tests to determine if your eyes are suitable and which technique is the best fit.
Can I have surgery on both eyes on the same day?
Yes. In most cases, both eyes are operated on during the same session, as long as there are no contraindications.
What happens if I'm not a candidate?
If, after tests, we find that you're not a candidate, we won't proceed with surgery. We'll explain why and what other alternatives you have. Your visual safety is our top priority.
